Project Description
Having general access to water is always a huge challenge in rural Kenya and it greatly affects farming and the ability to produce food. In education, parents struggle to feed their children and this leads to children either not attending school, performing poorly and not thriving at a school or leaving school. Therefore, water is an essential link in this casual chain between food security, school attendance, and educational outcomes. ACCESS with a BIG help from a Canadian Charity (Developing World Connections ) to relieve the burden of poverty in Kenya has teamed up and has built water access on-site at schools in Kenya so that food could be grown directly. This secures that the students at least are provided two nutritional meals per day greatly reducing the burden on parents. The project’s theory of change has worked well. water = school garden = food = increase food security = reduce parental food burden = now more children attend school = more girls in school = more girls complete school.
